For the first 70 years of the companies history they continued to increase their output and distribution within the United Kingdom. In 1954 the company achieved its first big break in the international fashion market when it teamed up with iconic fashion designer Christian Dior to design an exclusive range of cashmere clothing, this collection catapulted Lyle & Scott to becoming an established international fashion brand.
By the 1960's they decided to concentrate heavily on the golf industry and start sponsoring and endorsing players to wear their clothing during tournaments. At the 1969 Ryder Cup in particular many of the players wore their items. The decade also saw the birth of the famous Golden Eagle logo which still adorns much of their clothing today.
In 1985 Lyle & Scott created their first ladies golf clothing range which was to prove equally as popular as the men's range and is still in production today.
2001 saw perhaps the most important change in the rich history of the company when they decided to employ a new brand creative director who was tasked with modernising the brand into a designer fashion label whilst still being sympathetic to the brands history. The results were hugely successful and immediately Lyle and Scott became one of the highest selling designer labels within the UK, and was also picked up on by many celebrities including rock bands which helped increase the popularity of the brand.
Today the Lyle & Scott success story shows no signs of slowing down with many online fashion retailers stating that it is their best selling brand.
