Lyle & Scott - A Distinctive British Brand

The Lyle & Scott story starts back in 1874 in the Scottish mill town of Hawick. The company was founded by to individuals William Lyle and Walter Scott, who combined their surnames to create the brand name. Being a Scottish clothing company much of their output was designed around wool garments and particularly golf clothing which was and still is a hugely popular sport in England.

For the first 70 years of the companies history they continued to increase their output and distribution within the United Kingdom. In 1954 the company achieved its first big break in the international fashion market when it teamed up with iconic fashion designer Christian Dior to design an exclusive range of cashmere clothing, this collection catapulted Lyle & Scott to becoming an established international fashion brand.

By the 1960's they decided to concentrate heavily on the golf industry and start sponsoring and endorsing players to wear their clothing during tournaments.
