Although there are several types of men & women belts the one most commonly used and highlighted in the media is the fashion or trendy belts. Styles and shapes vary among sexes. Men leather belts tend to have a width that is between 1 1/4" to 2", while women designer belts tend to vary from as small as 1" wide which are known as skinny belts all the way up to 3" wide which are known as wide designer belts.
Although the traditional leather belt is still in demand, mostly plain and of one solid color, it's the trendy men's belts with rhinestones, gems, shinny metallic hardware that are being favored by the masses. These designer belts are usually accompanied by a stylish belt buckle that makes the overall leather piece standout even more.
Colors also vary among sexes. Guys tend to play it safe when it comes to their trendy leather belts, usually staying with shades of brown, black, and in some instances white. Women on the other hand tend to be a bit more stylish with their fashion belts, experimenting with pink, red, yellow, green, blue, while still faithful to black and brown belts.
Another crave appealing to the fashion industry is what is known as vintage leather belts. Although not really vintage by definition, fashion designers use different techniques to achieve the vintage look. Some of the most popular methods are known as the distressed & antiqued methods which gives a very raw, edgy, urban feel to a belt.
