When working on leather, there are several methods by which you can age leather to make it look an feel vintage. One method that is very popular is to beat up the leather. Throw it on the ground, stomp on it, hit it with a hammer. Do anything that will produce bruses, marks, scratches on the skin. The more you beat it up the more vintage a piece of leather will look, just don't go over board.
Another method which is also popular is what is called Antique or Antiquing by which the surface of the leather hide is treated to emmulate an old, rough, vintage style look. This is a trickier method to apply / perfume, you have to be very careful as you can easily ruin a whole piece of leather hide.
Fashion Belt Designers tend to stick with the distressed method as it's easier to performe but you can find some good vintage leather belts designers who have mastered the art of antiquing.
