A Survey of Garments That Slenderize

Garments intended to have a slimming effect on their wearer have existed for generations. Previous incarnations of these items could be likened to torture tools, in which eighteenth and nineteenth century ladies attempted to shrink their 30-inch waists down to 18-inch ones by tightening a corset which cinched the waist with agonizing rigidity.

In the 1950s and 60s, girdles hit the scene, and though they were less painful than the earlier corsets, they were hardly comfortable and produced an unsightly roll of fat that appeared at the top of the garment. Elongated Panties - These garments boost the derriere, flatten the midsection and smooth the upper legs, helping this portion of a woman's figure appear more slender. Such items are very effective under form-fitting skirts and pants, and are especially great under leggings, due to their ability to slenderize legs without noticeable panty lines.

Camisoles - These garments function similarly to slips, help contain excess bulges in the midsection and optimize the appearance of the chest area. These garments are available with vibrant lace detail that can form an attractive accent when worn under a sweater or jacket. These are meant to be paired with tops, particularly tighter ones intended to display a lean figure.

High Waisted Underwear - These types of briefs are a type of slenderizing garment meant to provide a flatter midsection without creating the dreaded muffin top (bulge that spills over the top of pants). Commonly paired with a camisole, this type of garment works perfectly with shorts and pants alike.

The era of enduring physical suffering in exchange for an improved appearance is long over. The evolution of beautiful and very functional slenderizing garments allows women to combine fashion and comfort simultaneously.
